Christmas Day Diversion
Christmas day is not complete without engaging parlour games or a good read for those who are determined to keep awake after a festive feast, and those games and books make for perfect Christmas gifts guaranteed to be enjoyed on Christmas day. This year Blu (my boyfriend)’s uncle gifted him with this Chinese infusion chess table complete with the pieces equivalent to Chinese Chess, perfect harmony.
Christmas book gifts
McMillan is one of my favourite publisher, their Collector’s Library books take pride on my book shelve. They are light and small enough to fit in your handbag and with glimmering gold at every page turning, it is an absolutely joyful experience to read.
Blu surprised me this Christmas with 6 MCL classics and Blu’s sister also surprised me impromptu with a copy of Henry James’s haunting classics: The Turn of the Screw and Owen Wingrave. Perhaps Blu encountered my unchecked shopping basket online once upon a time, but shhh we will never know.
Classic Parlour Games
If reading is felt to be a drowsing activity after your biggest meal of the year, a classic parlour game is a certain cure. I am a great admirer of those who gift antique table games. This year Blu received an Edwardian version of The Compendium of Games, included within, something I have never played before: Race and Steeplechase, a horse racing table game, what fun!
